Important Information

We are so excited to be hosting the 23rd Annual LEAP Conference at the Hotel Murano after nearly 4 years of absence! The previous 2020 LEAP Conference was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One new requirement this year is that all attendees (including volunteers, workshop presenters, keynote speakers, and chaperones) must be vaccinated against COVID-19. Each school will be responsible for making sure that their attendees are vaccinated before arriving at Hotel Murano. Those attending who are not students or chaperones will need to show their proof of vaccination to our LEAP Coordinators. For any questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccine please contact one of our LEAP Coordinators, Ary Esparza, at colina1@seamar.org.

The cost to attend the two-day conference at the Hotel Murano is $100 per student and $150 per chaperone, which will include meals for the two days. Schools will be responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the venue in Tacoma and Olympia. There will be an additional overnight parking fee of $22 per day. There will be a LEAP group rate for rooms at the Hotel Murano. Each room will have two double beds at a cost of $165 a night, as long as your room is reserved by March 6, 2023. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What are the requirements to attend the LEAP Conference?

A: You must be a high school student from Washington State (grades 9-12). You will also need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit a signed Registration Packet which includes a registration and photo release form. The forms can be downloaded from the registration page. The cost for attendance for students is $100 and for chaperones it is $150. Schools will also be responsible for their own transportation and hotel room reservations, which are separate expenses not covered by the LEAP registration fees.

Q: Why is there a cost to attend the conference?

A: The fees help cover expenses for the two-day conference. It will cover meals, materials, facilities and other additional expenses. LEAP will provide attendees with lunch and dinner on the first day of the conference, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the second day. This fee does not cover the costs for the hotel rooms. Only LEAP Ambassadors will have their costs covered by Sea Mar.

Q: How do we reserve hotel rooms?

A: LEAP has blocked off rooms at Hotel Murano specifically for the conference. There is a special discounted group rate of $165 per room, per night. The "cut-off" date for Hotel Murano to accept reservations at the group rate is Monday, March 6, 2023. Any reservation requests received after this date will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis. Each school is responsible for booking the rooms needed for their attendees. Each room will have 2 double beds. It is recommended that there are 4 students to a room and 2 chaperones to a room. There are two ways to make reservations: 1) You can call Hotel Murano's Reservations Department at (877) 239-0882, Mon - Fri from 8am - 5pm. When you call make sure to request the LEAP 2023 group rate for the discount. OR 2) Click here on the LEAP 2023 Booking Link  (also on the registration page) to book your rooms. The discount has already been applied.

Q: Will transportation be provided?

A: No, unfortunately LEAP does not provide transportation to the conference or to Olympia for our Legislative Day. The schools that are attending will be expected to provide their own transportation to and from the conference. Only LEAP Ambassadors will have their transportation provided.

Q: Why are you requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination?

A: We understand how COVID-19 disproportionately impacted underserved communities and we want to help keep each other safe and healthy. We will be requiring all LEAP Conference attendees including volunteers, workshop presenters, and chaperones to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Only the first set of vaccination is required to attend. Boosters are not required but highly recommended. Getting vaccinated is just one way we can  continue to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

Q: Do I have to wear a mask?

A: No, you will not be required to wear a mask at the conference though they are recommended. We will have sanitizing stations at the conference where masks will be also be provided for those who may want one.

Q: Is there a dress code for the conference?

A: For the most part the conference will be casual. We do ask that for Legislative Day, which takes place on the second day of the conference, that students wear business casual attire. This day we will be visiting the State Capitol and will be meeting with their district representatives. On the second night of the conference we will also be having a small dance where students will be expected to follow the same dress code as their schools.
